Mr. Shepard and Central Alumni Association Members,

I wanted to introduce myself, as once again we have a full Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Central High School, which hasn't fully existed for at least 10 years.  We are proud to have Fashion and Design, Foods, and Early Childhood Education courses to offer to 10-12th graders at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year levels, as well as a FACS Career Explorations course offered for Freshmen,   We have worked very hard this past year, my first year at Central and as Instructional Leader, under the very supportive guidance of Principal  Chris Jones, to improve facilities for FACS, increase class sizes, and create more choices and better learning environments in the FACS areas.  It has been an exciting time for students and faculty members that has culminated this summer with a preschool playground that is up to safety code with a new shade awning, wood chips, and turf, a fully remodeled and updated Foods lab that will rival culinary and professional kitchens, and a Fashion room that was expanded by removing a wall for more space and work areas.  This is just a start to what we are planning to do to help our students achieve in the future in their FACS endeavors and become leaders in the State and Nation in Fashion, Foods, and Early Childhood Education areas of Career and Technical Education. We are Central, yes we can!

I would like to extend an invitation to alumni  and community members who are interested in visiting Central, or who may work or have a interest in any of the FACS content areas, or who would like to come to speak to our classes, to contact me.  We are excited to have a new course listing, FACS Internship 1-2 ( a 3rd year course for Seniors) which allows students to work/intern or volunteer/shadow in the community in their selected content area.  We are leaders and are looking for partners in this new course to help our students make the connection between classroom learning and the professional work experience.

I look forward to hearing from you or any alumni that you wish to forward this to, and to helping the alumni association by advocating for you through our club, Central FCCLA:  Fashion Bobcats!  In return we would like to remind you that we are also always in need of donations of any kind and are always able to accept tax donations, even if you do not have children or students who attend Central HS.  We are Central Fashion, and yes we can design Fashions, sew gowns, put on a Fashion Show, win scholarships to FIDM, travel to New York... with your help!
Sincerely,

Ms. Mary Swierceski
