Chuck Sankey referred the members to the agenda
booklet and the summary of the association to date. He highlighted the draft
goals and strategic initiatives. He encouraged the creation of a Membership
Committee. He also talked about the value of tradition. He enumerated the
benefits of establishing and maintaining historical archives. He showed an
example of a poster highlighting famous Central graduates. He suggested that
the group consider further research into how many former graduates are
teachers. This was tabled as a topic for future discussion. |

David Lujan asked the group to give special recognition
to the work of Chuck Sankey on behalf of the membership during this start-up
phase. The group responded by applause. David Lujan turned to the group for
nominations. He read the slate of officers for the 2004 Central High School
Alumni Association: -
President – Jim Perry (’67) -
1st Vice-President – Richard Elardo (’60) -
2nd Vice President – Chuck Sankey (’63) -
Treasurer – Steve Rhue (’76) -
Secretary – Mary Ann Barden (FCHAA) David Lujan asked for a vote on the above slate of
officers. Members moved and seconded his request. The members present voted
to approve the slate of officers as read. The newly elected president, Jim
Perry, took the podium. |

Membership Report |
Mike Ball |
|
|
Stephan Ahearn (’76) distributed the membership
report. The association has 108 members. Registration has come both from the
website and in-person (from word-of-mouth). He indicated a need to create
rosters for classes earlier than 1970. Betty Fairfax has all the graduation
programs for those years; however, it appears that those names do not exist
in the district in electronic form. Membership Dev-elopment was one of the
strategic initiatives (draft status) presented to the group. |
|
|
3-E |
Treasurer’s Report |
Steve Rhue |
|
|
A copy of the Treasurer’s Report was distributed.
The ending balance in the account as of the time of the report is $3,585.66.
Steve Rhue suggested that more detailed accounting practices be adopted. He
said that the group has applied for 501c3 status and that appears to be
progressing towards approval. Currently 2 names (Steve Rhue and Chuck Sankey)
are on the bank accounts. |
|
|
3-F |
Website Status Report The website is
working. Stephen Ahearn reported that current web services are “simple but
adequate, as well as expandable at a current date.” Usage statistics were
distributed as a handout. Individual classes are advised to have a link from
this site to their individual site. Several classes have done this already. A
question was asked about the possibility of editing comments made from web
visitors. The members were told that was possible; however, the current
editing was complex. The group recognized Mr. Ahearn’s efforts with applause.

Call for Volunteers (general) Tim Hogan (’69)
made a request for general volunteers. He also suggested that the group has
to grow and organize before it can move into the volunteer arena with
success. He indicated a need for Class Contacts (people willing to act as the
“chair” for their year). |

Call for volunteers—April 17All Alumni Ice
Cream Social and Homecoming 2004 |
Dianna Krauss |
|
|
Chuck Sankey told the group about the preliminary planning of an April
17, 2004 Ice Cream Social. The campus had approved the date. Dianna Krauss
said that she would be unable to chair that event for this spring. Jim Perry
and Chuck Sankey agreed to do further research on this and make a determination
on the feasibility of going forward. Megan Pusch requested that the decision
be made rather quickly because the student government would need to plan for
their involvement. Student, Claudia Tarango, presented a plan for an April 9, 2004 Career Day
sponsored by the National Vocational Honor Society. Claudia asked the group
to consider volunteering to represent their career field or to help the NVHS
in organizing and hosting the event. Volunteers can contact the teacher
advisor, Tiffannie Barden, at 602-405-1164 for more information or to arrange
to be a part of the event. |
